Event description
Registration Opens on Aug 26 5:30a-Oct 19 7:30p
This is an OLLI at ASU class with registration space available for current Foothills Recreation & Aquatics monthly and/or annual members. This class, led by Kathe Anderson, community scientist and conservation educator, combines an indoor presentation with an outdoor birding experience. We will learn about the fascinating story of turkeys—from what’s behind the familiar Butterball label to finding out the present-day status of Wild Turkeys after near extinction. We’ll explore turkey history including but not limited to their distinctive features like the wattle, snood, and beard, and the basics of habitat, diet, and breeding behavior. After learning about turkeys indoors, we will head outdoors, where we'll look for whatever shows up in the area - possibly a turkey cousin: Gambel's Quail. Bring your binoculars!
