Event description
Unlike autobiography, a memoir focuses on just a single event, a series of related events, or an era in one’s life which the writer wishes to explore. Using Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir as one of our texts, we will discuss what makes a memoir compelling and examine excerpts from several celebrated works. The class includes prompts for starting our own memoir. Open to writers of all skill levels and genres.
PATTI BLANCO completed a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Arizona and is a poetry and poetic prose writer. She taught writing and literature at the university level for several years and her work has appeared in various anthologies. She is currently completing a collection of poetic prose pieces documenting life in the mining town of Miami, Arizona during the 1930s and 1940s.
