Discover how a small desert settlement became one of Arizona's cherished historic downtowns. This 3-part lecture series explores Glendale's origins from its founding, growth through the mid-20th century, and cultural changes into present day. Each session highlights the evolution of Downtown Glendale as the heart of a community, featuring historic photographs, to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the people, places and events that shaped Downtown Glendale. Audience is invited to share personal historic photographs, documents and stories and the end of the series.
Part 2: From Farm Town to Wartime City (1930s–1960s)
Explore how global events shaped a growing Glendale. From the Great Depression to World War II and beyond, this session examines population growth, cultural diversity, and the everyday lives of residents.
Join us for one session or all three to connect with Glendale’s past and see how it continues to shape the future.
All events at the Glendale Public Library are public, and participants may be photographed by the media and/or City staff for future print and/or online publication.
