Event description

In a landmark 1963 essay, National Book Award-winning poet Robert Bly argued for a poetry that proceeds from the unconscious: from emotion, passion, and mystery. He praised the work of poets such as Rilke and Blake, Machado and Vallejo, describing their poetry as a kind of “leaping” from the unconscious to the conscious mind.  In this workshop, we will read and discuss ways of accessing the wisdom of the unconscious to feed our own work. Open to writers of all skill levels and genres.

PATTI BLANCO completed a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Arizona and is a poetry and poetic prose writer. She taught writing and literature at the university level for several years and her work has appeared in various anthologies. She is currently completing a collection of poetic prose pieces documenting life in the mining town of Miami, Arizona during the 1930s and 1940s.

Registration is not required.

This project is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
